Favorite Ride: DeLand & West Volusia
If you're interested in seeing a little bit of "old Florida" then you will enjoy the roads on the west side of Volusia County.  One of my favorite rides begins as you are entering the outskirts of DeLand while heading west on US 92.  Just past the light at Kepler Rd look for Marsh Rd (CR 4047) on the right.  Turn right onto Marsh Rd and you will be transported back in time.  The road is well shaded with lots of live oaks and hanging moss.  You'll even see an old abandoned fernery or two hidden among the family farms.  As you come to a "Y" intersection, bear to the right onto Daugherty Rd for a brief distance until the intersection with SR 11.  Turn left onto 11, and in less than a quarter mile, you will see Reynolds Rd (CR 4038) on your right.  Take the right onto Reynolds Rd and continue your ride through the countryside until you reach the small town of DeLeon Springs.
DeLeon Springs State Park is a local favorite.  In addition to the beautiful swimming area located around the spring boil, you will see an old mill that doubles as the best pancake restaurant in the area.  At the Sugar Mill restaraunt, your table is the griddle and you get to make your own pancakes, flavoring them with any number of delectable treats.  After you've eaten your fill and cooled off in the spring, you'll be ready to continue your ride.  Exiting the park, head south on Park Ave and turn left on Wheeler St.  After a short distance, turn right onto Grand Ave where you will enjoy plentiful live oaks and the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge along your right.   Continue south on Grand Ave until it intersects with SR 44.  Turn left and head into the heart of DeLand.  At Woodland Blvd, you'll find DeLand's historic main street where you can enjoy a variety of shops and restaurants.  To complete your loop, head north on Woodland and turn right at the intersection with US 92 which will take you back to Daytona Beach. Let us know about your favorite rides!
