Favorite Ride: Daytona Beach to New Smyrna Beach
One of my favorite local rides is a trip from Daytona Beach to New Smyrna beach. This route takes you along quiet country 2-lane roads, past several local biker-friendly hangouts and provides views of the Intercoastal waterway, historic New Smyrna and the beach. (Approx. 25 miles)
Start at the intersection of Beach Street and International Speedway Blvd (US 92). Travel west on US 92 to Tomoka Farms Rd (CR 415). Head south on Tomoka Farms Rd. Stop and visit the Daytona Flea and Farmer's Market open Friday - Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Continue south on Tomoka Farms, a beautiful 2-lane road past horse farms and open fields dotted with palms. At the intersection of Tomoka Farms and Pioneer Trail (CR 4118) you'll find the Cabbage Patch, a small local watering hole and a favorite among bikers. Tip from me to you - don't order the coleslaw. Take Pioneer Trail east to New Smyrna Beach. When you come to the fork in the road where Pioneer Trail and Turnbull Bay Rd converge, stay on Pioneer Trail. This is one of the only stretch of roads in the area where you'll ride through several twists and hard turns. When you arrive at the intersection of Pioneer Trail and Mission Drive, turn south on Mission. This will take you to SR 44 where, if you turn west, you'll discover Pub 44 and the New Smyrna Harley-Davidson dealership. If you head east on SR 44 you can take the South Causeway to AIA and the beachside. I like to visit historic Flagler Ave in New Smryna. From SR 44, turn north on US1. Then take Canal St east to Riverside Dr, where you'll spot several marinas. Take Riverside Dr north to the North Causeway. The North Causeway will take you east across the Intercoastal and into the historic downtown area. |
